As part of my ongoing ‘Beauty Nation’ collaboration with Refinery29 I have been testing some daring beauty looks. This month I went for a neon orange eye and actually kind of loved it. If you are feeling bold, the ‘how-to’ is below:

I was scared of wearing brightly colored makeup, so I stayed a brown-shadow girl until my twenties. If I can take the plunge into bright shades, anyone can. With a little guidance, spring’s saturated eye can become your newest go-to look.

Color Matters

Pick a color that complements your eyes and makes them pop, so that people stare for the right reasons. If you have blue eyes, try bright yellow; green eyes, go for punchy purple; and brown peepers work with a variety of shades, like the burnt orange I did here.

Pack On The Color

For my sunset eyes, I applied a creamy sherbet shade to my upper lid, starting at my lashline and slowly blending upward, toward and past the crease. To really make an impact, apply multiple layers of the shadow, making sure the pigment is mostly concentrated closer to your lashline. To make it less bold, you can stop the color at your crease.

Go Easy On The Liner

To provide definition to your eye, use a black or brown liner to create a light winged tip. You don’t want your eyes to get lost in a pool of orange.

Setting Powder Is Key

I always smudge my liner, so setting powder is a personal godsend to keep my makeup intact. The last thing you want is to step out in your neon shadow feeling confident, only to realize that you have blue smudged all over your cheek — not a good look. A light dusting of finishing powder around your eye is all you need.

Tonight haute couture punks will be taking over the Upper East Side as the Metropolitan Museum of Art hosts its annual Costume Institute Gala. The theme this year is PUNK: Chaos to Couture -- a personal favorite. In honor of the event, here are some easy ways to embrace your inner punk with some head-to-nails beauty inspiration.

The Lips: For the brave, wearing just a simple black lip can elevate your look to instant punk status. At Moschino Cheap and Chic they painted on MAC’s Lipmix with a lip brush to achieve this glossy perfection.

The Eyes: Charcoal eyes are a must. Since spring is in the air, I went for a lighter take on the typical black liner and mixed in an architectural element. You can recreate this edgy look at home in a few simple steps:

(1) Draw a small dot one centimeter below your bottom lash line, in the center. Draw the second dot about two centimeters away from the outer corner of your eye. When you look at the two points, there should be a slight incline.

(2) Connect the dots with MAC kohl liner in Feline. You can do this in one straight line or by making small connecting dashes. If you need to steady your hand, place your elbow on a table.

(3): Add a small angled line to intersect the first one.

(4): Clean up with Q-tips and eye makeup remover, fixing any smudges. Make sure to apply some light powder to the areas where you used makeup remover, so that it won’t cause the rest of your makeup to smudge later.

The Nails: During The Ramones’ heyday, black chipped nails reigned supreme. To glam it up a bit, go for a glossy black and with a popping neon hue on only a few of your nails.

The Hair: Joan Jett’s choppy mane might involve losing some inches, but for a less drastic measure, add a little color. For lighter-haired folks, Manic Panic makes an easy-to-use dust on color that washes out at night. Darker-haired ladies have a bit of challenge in this department, but clip on extensions are a great temporary option. Balmain Hair sells amazing clip-on’s that take to hair dye really easily.

Costanza Pascolato, Vogue Brazil contributor in Paris: "All of my friends in Brazil did a little surgery, but I think they changed so much. It was such a wonderful life I have had, it's been hard sometimes, but I think my face should show it all.

I have been wearing the same makeup for a while now. It is La Mer crème first, and then this MAC product that evens out your skin tone. Next I use the continuous coverage foundation, by Clinique, the one in the green tube--it's very greasy. Then I use the Clinique powder in number 6. The blush I am wearing is Sisley, it is a bluish color, so it doesn't go with everything but I like it. Now I have a problem with my eyes, but I use a Clinique crayon eyeliner on them. And I wear the MAC eyeliner that comes in a little pot with a brush, but a very fine brush. I take hours to do it, because of all of the wrinkles-- they are fighting with me, so it depends on how much I've slept. My lipstick is a mix of MAC spirit, I have been wearing this a long time and Sisley in 14.
