Last weekend I caught up with West Village store owner Erin Crandall whose favorite beauty spots happen to be within a few blocks of her boutique, A Man and A Woman. The store launched an e-commerce version today - just in time for holiday shopping!

“I opened the store in the West Village in September of 2010. We are inspired by timeless style icons like Audrey Hepburn, Paul Newman and the woman in the film, A Man and A Woman, that the store is named after, Anouk Aimée, —her style’s insane. Also being in the West Village is really important. I’ve lived here ever since moving to New York ten years ago; it feels like a neighborhood—it’s just cozy and I see my customers everywhere I go.”

“I can literally take care of all my beauty needs within a few block radius. I get my hair blown out across the street from my shop at L’atelier by Paul Morgan. I buy all of my soaps and candles at C.O. Bigelow- they have the best stuff. I’m really into candles, I like everything to smell good. I buy my makeup at NARS on Bleecker, which is kind of perfect that it’s right here, so now I really never need to leave the neighborhood. I am also obsessed with the store The Bathroom on Charles St, they’ve got really good beauty gifts there. I get my nails done at QQ on Christopher; I think all of my customers go there too.”

“Before opening up the store I had worked at Shopbop for ten years, so starting an online venue is a natural move that I had always planned on. Now that I have had time to get to know my customer it felt like the right moment. We are offering same day delivery and closet consultations to people in the city, which is exciting to be able to do.”

“I cut six inches off my hair two or three months ago and it’s growing in super fast -I couldn’t figure it out. Since I’m obsessed with Organic Avenue, and get my juice there every single day, I asked them what I could be drinking that would make it grow. They figured it must be the E3 since it has amino acids in it. For some reason they started to tell customers in the area about me and people occasionally know me as the E3 girl in the neighborhood, it’s pretty funny.”
