BEHIND THE SCENES
COMMUUN SS 2012

I kicked off Paris Fashion week at the Commuun show on Tuesday night. Designers Iku Furudate and Kaito Hori’s sustainable organic collection draws its inspiration from nature and architecture via bold lines and faded hues. After the show, I chatted up the hair and makeup departments to get the details on the beauty looks.

Tomohiro Ohashi from Management Artists Agency designed the hair. “It is a natural look, a kind of messy look that I was going for. The girls look very out in the morning, like they haven’t done any styling. The products I used are all Bumble and bumble products. I started off with tonic lotion as a base to give the hair lots of vitamins for it to look healthy. Afterwards I used the grooming creme to give it some shininess and then the thickening spray helped me to rough it up.

The hair looks slightly wild, you feel like you want to brush it because it is almost tangled, but not quite tangled yet. It is a very strong sexy look.

Actually, the designer took his inspiration from architecture, the modern cut and he was really into shiny copper colors. So, I used copper hair extensions in the hair to reflect some copper. You don’t really see it but you can see the color is reflected a bit. Well, the clothes are almost futuristique so I wanted the hair to be quite natural—kind of rough and sexy.”

Yumiko Kamada from Shiseido designed the makeup look for the show today. “The designer made the clothes inspired by construction and buildings. I took a detail or moment in the clothes—a strong straight line for example, and reflected that in the makeup. I did a bold double liner on the eyelid.

I used Shiseido eyeliner pencils in white and black. Using two different colors gives it more structure. I only did mascara on the bottom lashes to emphasize the frame of the eyes.

On the face and body I used Shiseido perfect refining foundation because it makes the skin glow, and then the luminizing satin face powder in beige and white.

The powder was applied all over the skin to help reflect the light and give a luminous futuristique look. I wanted the skin to be subtle but energized. On the lips I used Shiseido perfect rouge lipstick.”
