NEW WORK: BEAUTY BOUQUET

MAY 21.2013 by AIMEE BLAUT
THE_FORMULA_SPRING_FLORAL_SHADES

While doing a trend report for the babes at Elle.com I couldn’t help noticing all the floral inspired launches this season. From peony polish to violet lip lacquer, spring makeup is all about pretty hues plucked from the garden. I rounded up some of my favorite picks inspired by flowers to get your routine in full bloom.

VIOLETTE FEMMES:

If you are feeling daring, let a lavender hue take center stage by trying a bold, smoky iris eye. For a more subtle accent, violet lip gloss and purple nail polish are easy ways to wear the trend.

Clarins Eye Quartet Mineral Palette in Iris Blossom, $42; clarins.com; Dior Vernis Nail Lacquer in Purple Revolution, $24; nordstrom.com ; Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss in Violet Rose, $24; sephora.com (all pictured above)

PRETTY IN PINK:

Shades of blush abound this season from soft roses to peony pinks. Try a poppy-hued nail polish or highlight your cupid’s bow and cheekbones with a subtle, shimmery powder.

Aerin Floral Illuminating Powder, $55; neimanmarcus.com; Dior Cherie Bow Addict Lipstick, $31; nordstrom.com; Valentino Valentina Assoluto Eau de Parfum, $88; nordstrom.com; Jin Soon Nail Polish in French Lilac, $18; bloomingdales.com; M.A.C Pearlmatte – Baking Beauties’ Face Powder in Pink Buttercream, $30; nordstrom.com; Guerlain Meteorites Perles du Paradis Illuminating Sparkling Powder, $70; nordstrom.com (all pictured above).

TRACEY LOMRANTZ LESTER, GILT GROUP

MAY 10.2013 by AIMEE BLAUT
TRACEY_GILT_3

"I spent almost eight years in magazines before I made the move to Gilt Group—I was both insanely nervous and obnoxiously excited and the first couple of months here have exceeded all of my expectations. I had some knowledge of e-commerce from some of the cool projects I’d worked on at Glamour, but working for a pioneering company like Gilt is a whole different game. It's one thing to have good taste and be able to spot trends, but it's something else entirely to package those trends, present them to our members in a way that feels exciting and actually get them to shop (an enormous endeavor that I never had to worry about when I was an editor). I’m looking at fashion through a whole different lens, and it's such a gratifying experience. I work closely with our buyers to decide which trends we're going to invest in and I help editorialize the shopping experience through video, original imagery, interviews, and style advice. Along with my amazingly talented team I create content for our blog. No day is like the one before it—the pace is just astonishing!

I am super uptight about oral hygiene so when I wake up I brush my teeth right away. Usually I’ll do a light spritz on my face with an Evian Spray and then I work out. After I get back from the gym I wash my face with Cetaphil. I’ve been using it for a hundred years; it’s the most amazing cleanser in the world. My grandmother’s ninety years old and she’s been using it forever and has amazing skin so that has always stuck with me. I use a Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado and recently started using a new moisturizer, Clinique Moisture Surge. It’s really good and only thirty dollars a jar, which is pretty incredible. In the winter I like the La Prairie Caviar Cream when my skin is dry.

When it comes to cosmetics I am very low key. Lipstick is my number one product; it’s my armor. No matter how crappy I feel or how much I hate my outfit I always put on some lipstick and it can change everything. I am not a brand loyalist and have about fifty different tubes. I’m wearing Estée Lauder, Fuchsia Velvet and I have a Clarins red that I have been obsessed with forever. I just got into a dark lip from MAC and am loving it. I am making it my mission this year to learn how to wear eyeliner. I just have never figured it. I am determined to master a nice little cat eye and winged flip. I’ve been wearing DiorShow mascara forever, that’s my go to.

I try to wash my face every single night; I hate to go to bed with any makeup on. Moisturizing my hands is really important to me. Hands are the telltale sign of how old a woman is, I am fanatical about keeping my hands youthful looking. I use L’Occitane hand cream and sometimes I sleep with cotton gloves. I put Vaseline on my lips every single night. I hate the feeling of dry lips.

I chopped all my hair off in October for a shoot for Glamour. It was down to my waist and cut more than ten inches off, it was so scary. It was a huge move for me after having long hair for years and years.”

LAURE HERIARD DUBREUIL, THE WEBSTER MIAMI

MARCH 27.2013 by AIMEE BLAUT

During Paris Fashion Week I caught up with The Webster’s Laure Heriard Dubreuil. Since her boutique stocks some of the best brands, it was no surprise that she turned up to Hotel Raphael clad in envy inducing outfits and packing some serious accessories. Over Ladurée macarons we chatted about her love for Clarins and how she combats jet lag.

(skirt and top by Marc Jacobs, shoes by Alaïa)

“During Fashion Week I wake up very tired suffering from all my jet lag. The first thing I do is jump in the shower. When I get out and am still a little bit wet I put some Clarins Tonic Oil on my body. This is my vitamin rush, it wakes up all my senses, before that I’m a zombie (laughs). Then I put on my day cream.

All of my skin products are Clarins; I grew up with them. My mother and my whole family uses Clarins they are so magical.

(dress by Julien David)

I live in Miami and it can get very hot so I don’t usually wear much makeup during the day. I wear the Clarins BB Cream, which gives me a smooth complexion. For more dramatic makeup I love M.A.C. Their Archie Girls collection is my favorite right now. I am using all of those products, especially the lipglass. I think the packaging is fun and feminine, I love when things are playful.

At night I get more dressed up and wear dark makeup. Of course I do a smokey eye with grays, blacks and lots of mascara. M.A.C. eyeliners are perfect for doing dark eyes. In Miami the women are feminine and the weather is so warm; you always feel like wearing little cocktail dresses and high heels. Even in New York the women are very dressed up. Women don’t dress up at night in Paris anymore and I feel that it’s a shame. I like to dress up even just to go on a date with my fiancé (laughs).

( blouse by Celine, trousers by Alexander Wang)

During Fashion Week I can change my clothes four times in one day, but its fun. I have ninety brands at The Webster and I want to enjoy all of them and represent. I think it’s fun to go to the shows and wear the clothes of the designers to show some support.

Every night I take off my makeup, it’s so important. I put on my One Step Cleanser from Clarins, its very soothing and calms my skin. Right now I am starting to use Double Serum. I was only using it at night but now I am putting it on during the day too, it’s amazing; I am becoming really addicted (laughs). I wear some light night cream over that and I go to bed. I need lots of sleep actually; I think it’s my weakness. I wish I didn’t need so much sleep; I could so much more. But if I don’t have my sleep I’m cranky like a baby (laughs).”
