BEAUTY CHAT, SPRING COLORS WITH TERRY
MAY 14.2013
by AIMEE BLAUT
I chatted with beauty royalty Terry de Gunzburg for Elle.com, here’s a preview of our spring color chat:
After abandoning a career in medicine to become a makeup artist, de Gunzburg went on to work with famed fashion photographers Guy Bourdin and Helmut Newton on their iconic images. Eventually settling at Yves Saint Laurent Beauté as the creative director, de Gunzburg was responsible for dreaming up the brand's cult classic concealer pen, Touche Eclat, which is a staple for celebrities and makeup pros alike. In 1998 de Gunzburg, launched her eponymous beauty range, By Terry, and coined the term “haute couleur," creating bespoke shades for her elite clientele.
Once reserved for the bold and daring, spring's new bright lippies and bold liners are becoming the season’s most desirable beauty buys. But selecting the perfect hues can feel daunting. ELLE.com sat down with de Gunzburg in Paris for a bit of guidance on choosing the perfect shades. Here, she offers up her inside tips on how to find the best bright shades and how to transition your makeup bag from winter to spring.

How can someone who is color shy introduce brighter shades into her makeup routine?
“Less is more. Try adding color on your lashes and lips rather than applying them to your eyelids. Colored mascaras in blues and greens are very accessible and a great first step to introducing more colors into your beauty regimen. Spring lipsticks that offer both color and transparency are safe for those who are lipstick shy. Lipsticks with a consistency between a gel and a balm coat the lips in a splash of glossy color, perfect for the spring. Subtle pinks and reds are an ideal place to start for everyone.” For the full and all of Terry’s advice click here

THE SPOTLIGHT
HALTE À LA PEAU SÈCHE, GLAMOUR PARIS
JANUARY 16.2013
by AIMEE BLAUT
Back in October while stuck inside during Hurricane Sandy and living off of Fruit Roll-ups I answered an email interview for the lovely Sabine of Glamour Paris, et voila! If you are in France you can pick up the February edition and see for yourself. For everyone else who doesn't parler français no problem, I translated it below (with some additions in parenthesis).

Q:What Kind of skin do you have?
A: Combination, oily in summer and dry in winter: the best kind.
Q: Winter Beauty Philosophy?
A: You can never use too much cream hydratant, there is nothing less sexy than dry skin.
Q: How do you stay hydrated in the winter?
A: On winter mornings, I spray Evian water on my face and I let a few drops of Huile de Rose By Terry penetrate into my pores before starting my regimen. To keep my body hydrated I use Clarins Huile Tonic or Sensual Bare Body Cream by Kenzoki. (Other notables: I am loving the Nordic serums by Transderma this winter-they have high concentrations of Vitamin A and C. Sunday Riley Good Genes Serum deserves a mention, it’s like youth in a bottle or getting an extra four hours of sleep.)
Q: What do you use for you chapped lips and hands?
A: I am addicted to Labello and I keep my hands hydrated with organic coconut oil. (More lip favorites: Fresh Sugar Lip Balm, Dior Crème de Rose and Darphin Age-Defying Lip Balm)
Q: Other beauty tips for the season?
A: I try to steam my face at least once a week. Since I also live in Stockholm where there is more of a bathhouse culture, I like to visit the baths; Centralbadet is lovely with hot pools and different saunas.
Q: Hydration tip taken from a pro?
A: I apply my toner as Terry de Gunzburg told me she does herself: I splash it on my face the way men do with aftershave.
