Bleachy white hair is the color of the season. From Ola Rudnicka to Sasha Luss fair-haired beauties are stealing the scene. I love a platinum moment but when I saw that Aussie model Codie Young had traded her fiery red locks for a fairer shade I started to ask questions. I chatted with Codie in Paris about her new look and how she handled her bleach out.
I arrived in New York last night and headed straight to the John Freida Salon in Meatpacking. They just launched a new line of hair products designed to give good curls and as a chronic straightener I was interested in something new. So with my luggage in tow I hailed a cab and darted downtown for the wavy locks that dreams are made of.
There seems to be a short hair takeover amongst models and influencers lately. I can wax poetic about Flavia Lucini’s most recent chop, though I am most impressed with Edie Campbell’s ability to rock a mullet with swag. The British model is single handedly making the mullet cool. If I’ve learned anything at all during […]
On a bad day it’s hard not to notice Brazilian/Italian model Flavia Lucini. She has razor sharp cheekbones and striking almond eyes. But at Temperley London was the first time I had seen her new haircut. The short graphic do suits her so perfectly that it feels impossible to imagine her former flowing locks. Hair that […]
Ellinore Erichsen’s short hair is perfection, the holy grail of short hair. I fell hard for the Swedish model backstage at Christopher Kane last season. So when I bumped into her at the HUNKYDORY show in Stockholm yesterday I had to ask her about it. While many dare to go short until their tresses grow […]
Work sucks. Okay not really, but if you’re stuck inside an office all summer it can bum you out—especially if you look at your instagram. Coming to Europe you can imagine my shock when receiving out of office emails that last for months. Basically the EU shuts down in July and August. An extended vacation is something I can get behind but in reality it can also be super inconvenient, especially when placing sample requests. I wanted to give a little love to all the babes grinding away this summer with a beachy hair look fit for the office
As part of my Beauty Nation collaboration with Refinery29 Iast week I broke down three summer hairstyles to beat the heat looking chic. enjoy:
For New Yorkers, summer means sunny days in the park, the return of shorts, streetside mango vendors, and humidity — lots of it. I grew up in Miami, which is essentially the same as growing up inside a sauna. My adolescence was basically made up of one frizzy-haired disaster after the other. I’ve since learned that on humid days, the best thing to do is throw all your hair up.
While I love my topknot as much as the next girl, I thought I’d mix things up a bit and try out these three super chic updos. They’ll keep your hair off your neck and stay sleek even in the city’s 90% humidity. Bring it on, NYC.
It wasn’t too long ago that I discovered Balmain did hair, no not hair products, but actual hair. Michael Angelo of Wonderland introduced me to their high quality extensions (seriously they put my own hair to shame) and I became obsessed with their clip on fringe. It’s no surprise that I have fallen hard for their range of Hydrant shampoos and conditioners. The people at Balmain hair are doing something right since their products are ahhhamazing, but what lingers in my mind is why doesn’t anybody know about them? The team is relaunching their professional series at the end of the year so hopefully that will create some buzz. In the meantime I want to share the Balmain love so will be giving away a set of Hydrant shampoo and conditioner. Just tweet @theformulablog with the #formulahair for a chance to win.
Valentine’s Day got you down? Shake your blues away with Emily and her blueberry locks. Emily Dahl seems to be the master of hair hues. Back in October she was sporting an envy inducing red bob that constantly turned heads–but I am loving her new blue tresses even more. For some pre-Valentines Day hair inspiration here are three looks featuring Emily and her new-do.
After having a week to ease into the new year, it is time to implement those resolutions we made back in December. I am a habitual flat ironer, which leads to split ends and a dried out mane; so 2013 is about updating my hair and not killing it. For guidance I brought my conundrum to the Australian born hair guru living in Paris, David Mallett. Within moments his eyes lit up and he said “plaits!” After a few minor tweaks David updated the standard boring braid into a romantic Parisian updo (easy to replicate at home in minutes). Watch and learn!
