DRUGSTORE HOLIDAY

DECEMBER 17.2012 by AIMEE BLAUT

Did the TSA toss your La Mer? Did you spend too much time coordinating your bathing suits for St. Barts that you forgot your mascara? Don’t panic, we’ve got you covered. Behold: The Formula’s guide to a drug store holiday that will leave you dazzling.

The Base: L’Oréal’s Magic Skin Beautifier is a great budget BB Cream. A little goes a long way with this stuff, and it’s super pigmented, so use sparingly for a clean canvas (too much will leave you looking like an Oompa Loompa). It’s super smooth and provides lasting coverage.

The Eyes: I am loving Revlon’s Smoky Shadow Stick. It’s a great liner/shadow duo that makes blending a breeze. The applicator is chunky so it feels like you are holding a big crayon. I chose the metallic duo 205 Automic/Nuclear in gold and green. Start by lining your eye along your upper lash line in dark green, then blend upwards and out with your finger for a quick smoky eye. Lightly run the gold along the contour of your eye and dab some under the arch of your brow to brighten it up. Finish it off with cult favorite Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara.

The Lips: Nothing says it’s the holidays like a bold red lip. Maybelline Red Revival is perfection; the shade works well with any skin tone.

The Hair: Apply a little Dove Nourishing Oil Serum to your hair while it’s wet for ultra soft locks. I have become addicted to this product — it turns my hair into silk and smells amazing.

The Face Wash: Let’s not end 2012 with mascara on your pillowcase, so wash your face! My favorite drug store cleanser is by Simple. Their wipes and wash are gentle and work wonders for removing makeup. On the go, I opt for the wipes, but at home, I like to get a good pre-pillow scrub in before bed with the cleanser.

LAST MINUTE GIFTS FOR HIM

DECEMBER 14.2012 by AIMEE BLAUT

Last minute shopping sucks, especially when it’s for someone else. Shopping for men under duress is particularly dangerous, and can even lead to the unwarranted purchase of things like power tools. To avoid such a misstep, here is a list for the holidays, dedicated to the gents in your life.

Men have been giving women lingerie forever and I for one love to give it to them. It’s a double present: a little something all parties can enjoy. So say happy holidays and let yourself be unwrapped for a change. Agent Provocateur is classic and the Joseline set is crazy comfortable; it’s a great suspender set for someone who has never tried one before. Calvin Klein’s holiday reds capture the spirit of the season with a bit of edge. If you’re looking for something a bit tamer, The Reformation bralette is great; the hook and eye closures up the back are really hot and who doesn’t love black lace? Lastly, I’m a major fan of the COS mesh slip dress. It’s a slim fit and will hug your curves, although the downside is it will show all of your holiday cookies as well.

Another option for shopping in a pinch are fragrances. Penhaligon’s created signature box sets with custom illustrations that are perfect for dad. Sartorial is a lovely scent inspired by the Savile Row bespoke tailors Norton & Son’s. It is elegant, with notes of violet leaf, white musk and black pepper

Volutes Eau de Parfum both sounds and smells sexy. The honeyed Egyptian tobacco combined with notes of Iris has an earthy scent. Diptyque launched the fragrance back in June and it comes in their new oval shaped bottles.

My favorite gift sets are from Anthony Logistics and June Jacobs. Both come in gray carryall cases and offer the standard range of shaving creams and lotion. The Anthony Logistics bottles are enormous, whereas the June Jacobs’ are petite, and better suited for boys who are more complexion conscious (it comes with exfoliator).
